f: A → B Object as Information Carrier by Elena Belmann

In her graduation work titled „f: A →B, Object as Information Carrier“, Elena Belmann deals with the theme of information. Her work is inspired by artefacts which are labelled with secret signs. By deciphering these signs we get to know the hidden stories. In her objects Elena Belmann has encoded data sets of close friends, which can be decoded by a defined system. These complex, two-dimensional signs however are not found on the surface, they define the essence of the object‘s form. The three-dimensional objects emerge through layering, rotating and scaling the graphic patterns. The inner and outer structure is defined by the individual data input. The objects cannot be classified conclusively. They lie somewhere between architectural forms and data aesthetics. Functioning primarly as pure information carriers, they become a kind of sculptural data medium.
